Behind the band KAIRA is an interesting combination of top musical and cultural
influencers. The band's idea is extraordinary. Once a decade, a group of leading jazz
musicians join forces to make an album of new Finnish jazz. The composition of the band
varies according to the music genre, and the media has called it "the super team of Finnish jazz".
The band released their debut album KAIRA - Urban Sagas of Northern Cities in April 2017. The album alternates between delicate ballads and good-natured folk songs, where you sometimes feel the atmosphere of the nostalgic Villi Pohjola TV-series. The theme of the album is quite cinematic.
In March 2024, KAIRA's second album, AIR, was released. The music is written by Markus Niittynen and Lauri Kaira, and the album's impressive atmosphere is complemented by a strong brass section representing the absolute best of Finnish jazz.
